OSSC Junior Clerk Exam Pattern 2023

The Odisha Staff Selection will conduct a series of exams to shortlist the candidates for the posts of OSSC Junior Clerk. The detailed plan of examination and the Pattern of Examination is given below.

The OSSC Junior Clerk Selection consists of a four Stage Process which is as follows

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination

• The Preliminary Examination will be conducted in Online mode.
• In Prelim Exam there will be only One Paper which is General Awareness.
• The Questions will be Objective MCQ Type.
• There will be a total of 100 Questions and Each carry 1 Mark.
• There will be a negative marking and for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
• The duration of the Preliminary exam is 1.5 Hours.

This Junior Clerk Preliminary Exam Will be qualifying in nature. The candidates who will qualify for the Preliminary examination will be called for the stage 2 Main Examination.

Stage 2: Main Written Examination

This stage-2 of the OSSC Junior Clerk Exam selection process is the Main Written Examination. It shall consist of two papers each of 100 marks.

Paper 1 consists of questions from Odia and English. Questions will be subjective type. The standard of question will be of HSC Standard. There will be no negative marking on Paper 1. The Duration of Paper 1 is of 2 hours.

Paper 2 will be of Objective MCQ type. It consists of two subjects Mathematics and Basic Computer Skills. There will be 50 questions on each subject. There will be a negative marking and 0.25 will be deducted for each wrong response.

The detailed subjectwise mark distribution is as follows.

Candidates about 3 times the vacancies in order of merit category wise based on the marks of the mains written examination will be shortlisted to appear for Stage 3.

Stage 3: Computer Skill

This stage-3 of the OSSC Junior Clerk Exam selection process is the Computer Skill Test. It carries 50 marks. Candidates have to score at least 15 marks to qualify for the skill test.

Stage 4: Document Verification

Document verification will be done on a date to be fixed by the Commission.

Stage 1: Preliminary Syllabus

Stage 1 of the OSSC Junior Clerk Exam selection process is the Preliminary Examination. Questions in Prelim will come from General Awareness.

Stage 2: Main Examination Syllabus

The Main Examination consists of two papers. Paper 1 has Language English and Odia. Paper 2 consists of Mathematics and Basic Computer. The detailed syllabus is as follows

English Language Test: (Total 50 marks)

• Essay – 10 marks
• Letter – 05 marks
• Translation from Odia to English – 05 marks
• Comprehension of an Unseen passage-10 marks
• Grammar -20 marks
  • Verbs, Tenses, Modal, Active and Passive Voice, Subject-verb concord, non-finite verb forms (infinitives and participles), Sentence Structure, Connectors, Types of sentences, Types of Phrases and Clause, Direct & Indirect speech, Comparison, Determiners, Pronouns, Prepositions.

Odia Language Test:(50 Marks)

• Essay-10 marks
• Letter – 05 marks

Stage 3: Computer Skill Test(Practical)

1. WINDOWS Operating system: To test some of the following basic system operations on file/folder(s):
   • Create, Rename, Copy/Cut/Paste, Delete,
   • Using Clipboard
2. MS Word. A Paragraph in MS Word incorporating some of the tools given below to be tested during the examination
   • *Editing and Formatting text and paragraph
   • *Page and Paragraph Setup.
   • *Inserting pictures and WordArt.
3. MS PowerPoint: A PowerPoint presentation with 2/3 slides using some of the tools given below to be
   • tested during the examination.
   • *Editing and formatting slides
4. MS Excel: A problem in a spreadsheet related to some of the tools given below to be tested during the examination.
   • *Formatting cells and data
   • *Functions and Formulae (Relative, absolute and Mixed reference.
5. MS Access: A problem in MS Access related to some of the tools given below to be Tested during the examination
   • Creating and entering data into a database
   • Setting the primary key
   • *Printouts of the document(s) should be attached to the Answer Sheets.
